With the advent of the diamond saw, a thin phosfor bronze blade coated with diamond dust, it became possible to saw a rough diamond crystal into two or more parts from which finished diamonds could be polished. This allowed a minimum of two diamonds to be cut from a crystal rather than only one.
Of course since the sawn parts were not so thick as the original crystal, new cutting patterns had to be developed. There were many transitional shapes between the Old European and the modern Round Brilliant cut. This is the one that we have chosen. The lower pavilion mains are beginning to thin down and lengthen, but are still shorter and wider than in the modern stone, and there is still a nice culet as shown in the enclosed photo. (The culet is the small flat facet at the bottom in the middle of the stone.)
It is a beautiful stone, with a different look from both the modern Round Brilliant and the Old European.

Treasures in the Attic Ready to ship treasures that are mostly one of a kinds, when it is gone it will be removed, never to be seen again. These are things that we made for spec, or made for a client who forgot to pay, or sadly, made for a client who was then told, "NO!" when the proposal was made.
