I confess! My wife Mary and I are fans of the new Bonnie & Clyde two-parter. Like many Americans, we’re fascinated by this odd duo who were the most dangerous Romeo & Juliet in history! They even share a tragic end. The story reads more like a soap. We can’t seem to get enough of these two kids who did the unthinkable during an unthinkable time. Books have been written, documentaries produced, and for the third time, the entertainment industry has brought this glamorous couple, who killed at least 13 people, back and added to the glam. Despite being born into poverty, this Bonnie and Clyde were so fashionable they could have been strolled down Fifth Avenue or be presented at
court — without their machine guns. Source Picture it. Depression era Texas, jail breaks, gun fights, car chases, near misses, amazing luck, a gruesome, fiery end. All this created by two very young lovers in passion with one another and willing to do anything to get rich – from robbery to murder. In the joint simulcast-across-three-cable-networks television event, starring Emile Hirsch and Holliday Granger, there’s also glam glam glam among them thar ruins.
During the 1920s and thirties was a time of huge change for women who emerged from the Victorian and post-Edwardian Era as rebels with a cause. Sexuality, independence, girl power, and glamour were in and flew in the face of the more rigid rules of their mamas. And so the flapper era was born and continued into the early thirties. The face of fashion transition is also played to perfection by the hugely popular series “Downton Abbey,” Mary’s favorite. In “Bonnie & Clyde,” the independent trend continues, as Bonnie, a beautiful, smart, sensual, ambitious young gal, falls for baby-faced Clyde, a jailbird. Worse, she’s already married to a jailbird. Whether it was adventure that turned her on, naivety, the need for recognition, ambition, or all of the above, the show makes Bonnie the prime instigator for the couples’ continued crime spree, using her sultry charms on the besotted Clyde. She doesn’t hesitate to use her sensuality to get what she wants from whomever. Sexist? Maybe, it’s also mesmerizing, given the time frame and her intriguing badass, intensely driven, selfish, yet sexy character, taking center stage. Then there’s Clyde, who in this version, is portrayed in dream sequences to have had a “second sense” about his destiny as he “sees” Bonnie and himself, both dancing — and with bullet holes. We at WINK CZ, were caught up in the costumes. True, it was the Depression, but heck, producers and directors take a little poetic license. Source Bonnie is on 20’s and 30’s high trend, despite their poverty, and her look that we now consider “vintage” is still on trend. In clothing, the era was all about the shoulder with butterfly and banjo sleeves. Halter tops and bare midriffs started to appear. Shorter hair and bobs peeked out of cloche hats, and the flapper dress was replaced by clothes that emphasized waistlines. While the light-hearted fringy flirty look roared in the champagne-swilling 1920s, the thirties’ saw a more womanly look to show off curves. Source Our Bonnie and Clyde party ended with a game. Which one of us could choose the best Bonnie vintage jewelry at WINK CZ that would translate beautifully for 2014! Brooches, Art Deco rings, long necklaces, dangling earrings, beads on bags, and geometric lines were our top six. Ah, but during the era, where the outcast, Mrs. Simpson who “stole” the heart of a future King (not to mention his abdication) helped trend-set with high-end diamond and gems, even Bonnie would have sought out our jewelry that can scream the best of vintage, with the best quality and value on Earth. We have a winner! After scarfing down a small jar of red caviar, we at WINK CZ decided our Bonnie would adore a more atypical shape to reflect her difference, sexuality, and the spiraling aspects of her life, which is anything but circular. We call it our “Dangerous Dahlia.” PHOTO: WinkCz Source
This highly faceted oval, that also comes in dark yellow is a piece that not only looks “vintage” but can be set in a brooch surrounded by any of our Antique or Barion Ovals. As always, we’ll work with you to create a show stopper that’s filled with sensuality, mystery, and “danger!” And we promise a WOW one of a kind piece. (Weapons not included!) Here’s Winking at you!

Remember those ear muffs mom made you wear just in case you ran into a blizzard on your way to school? Or worse, for we guys, there were those embarrassing ear flaps attached to equally ugly “aviator” hats. The. Fortunately, the big trend that started this year is still going, going, and far from gone: The ear cuffs. Revived from the nineties, while these beauties won’t keep you warm, they will keep you hot on the fashionistas’ list of must-haves. Source
As we move into the New Year, “cuffings” have become even more fashion forward as they shook, rattled and rolled down the runways at Fashion week. A-Listers like Miley Cyrus, Emma Watson, Cara Delevingne, Diane Kruger, Rihanna, Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller, and Alicia Keys wouldn’t dare show up at Spago without the appropriate ear “coverings.” Source
“For those of you who stopped at studs, ear cuffs, a trend that took off this year, are not your conventional pearl drops. They wrap around parts of your ear and don’t require piercing which is great news for those of you who, like my cousin, remains pierce less in fear of a fatal lobe-pulling accident” explained Cate blogger from Every Day Sparks. Source
Next year’s ear cuffs will be even more cutting edge as celebs can adorn (or hide) their auricle with anything and everything from gems to feathers. They can be huge, chunky or delicate, although chunk and punk seem to be the trend of choice.
As a custom gemologist for over 40 years, I believe you’re a custom consumer. What might look fresh as tomorrow on your pal may not work with your personal aesthetic … or outfit. The great news is there are thousands of designs, sizes and styles to choose from. The trick, whether you’re an A-lister or think like one, is to choose well – for you!
DO: Wear only one piece. You’ve heard the expression “less is more?” Imagine two matching plumed and bejeweled ear cuffs? Not pretty.
DO: Stay away from the Spock look! While it may be cool on the Enterprise, large pointy ears on anyone anytime other than Christmas, will scare little children – and Dumbo.
DO: TRY THE PIECE ON. Don’t be taken in by words such as “awesome” from the salesperson or your sister. In the case in one thing, but once on, you may be unpleasantly surprised. You want something that will flatter your unique facial structure and features. If, for example, you’re petite, chunky may weigh you down, while tiny may be invisible.
DO: Consider your outfit and style. If you’re the sort of gal who in funky punk or grunge, will hop on the back of a Harley spikes will work. Go for it. If your wardrobe resembles a rose garden, ignore you bf who says: “At least try the spikes.” Ditto for animal inspired ear cuffs. Snaky pieces may freak you or yours out – even if the snake is whispering to you in diamonds. Leave them to the bold or the creepy.
DO: Take your hair color into consideration so your piece will stand-out and make you a knock-out. If you’re a brunette, go lighter. Blondes might shine … if they avoid gold, which will blend into light tresses.
DO: And while we’re on the subject, let your cuff be seen! Whether you choose a ponytail, an up-sweep, or a braid, you want to style your hair so that others can enjoy the beautiful bauble view.
DO: Feel free to mix and match ear cuff with a different shade of make-up or clothes. An exciting cuff is your big fashion statement.
DO: In the same vein, watch over-blitzing. Remember, you’ve got a huge ornament grabbing the spotlight. You don’t want to distract and detract with lavish or (garish) make-up and complicated blinding clothes or accessories. Keep the rings ‘n things to a tasteful minimum so others will see your cuff’s beauty and yours.
DO: Check fashion mags and websites for celebs you resemble and note their cuffs. Hey, if they flatter Paris Hilton, they’ll turn you into a Goddess. Source
Finally, be free to be you! Armed with confidence and common sense, you can cuff your way into haute couture – starting for as little as 20 dollars!

The silver Bonanza is back! It’s showing up big time in jewelry, dangling from celebs on runways, on the fingers of high fashion models, and in hot fashion mags! If you think of silver as a poor relative of gold, those days are long gone. Silver has not only caught up with gold, many experts feel it could leave it in the “dust” due to supply and demand. Source
It’s “buy” time, my friends! Both on and off the red carpet, top trend-setters are “going silver”, sporting pieces ranging from sterling snake necklaces and rings to personalized necklaces. From chunky cuff bracelets to delicate loop earrings, celebs have re-claimed sterling to shine in their silver gowns and wow the paparazzi. Despite the fact that silver is a relatively soft metal, it has always made me think of strength and endurance; it’s Wonder Woman meets high couture!
As a gemologist, in an economy where platinum is priced at Plutonium rates, I’m thrilled silver is on the fast trend track, with an untarnished and updated reputation that can make any women or man look red carpet ready at an affordable price. We at Wink are on the cutting edge of giving you the finest silver jewelry YOUR way. In keeping with our philosophy of creating the best educated clients, we want to share a few insights regarding silver.
What is Silver?
In its natural state, silver is a fairly soft metal that’s highly flexible. As jewelry, it can rarely stand alone as it can be marred, so experts combine silver with stronger metal alloys. On occasion pure silver can be used when designing intricate pieces requiring delicate weaving.
What is Sterling Silver vs. Silver Plating?
Sterling silver has to do with the ratio between natural silver and its metal alloys. Copper is the metal of choice as doesn’t alter the beauty of the silver or affect its value. In sterling silver, the ideal percentage is 7.5 percent copper to 92.5 percent silver. Silver plating is a layer of pure silver covering another material, which could be anything from brass to plastic. Source This difference between sterling and plating is huge; plating, unlike sterling, can wear down and expose the covered material.
Apart from Sterling, What Other Factor Affects the Value of my Silver Jewelry?
As with all fine jewelry, the value is determined by the quality and intricacy of the piece. The intensive labor, design complexity and expertise of the designer are the most critical factors affecting the beauty, durability and cost.
How Do I Know I’ve Bought The Real Thing?
Fine pieces are accompanied by a quality stamp or inscribed hallmark that tells you the metal content of the item. You should also see a registered trademark designating the maker of your silver jewelry. Again, you’re looking to verify the hallmark .925, meaning the piece is truly sterling. If new “sterling” appears tarnished, use caution! You may be buying plate or a piece of questionable quality.
In Your Professional Opinion, How Do I Best Care for my Sterling Jewelry?
Your gorgeous sterling bracelet and even gram’s precious legacy necklace can last indefinitely if you follow a few simple techniques:
- First, wear your jewelry often to prevent tarnish build up! However, don’t wear it when cleaning with household chemicals or while swimming in chlorinated pool water!
- When you’re not using it, store it in soft cloth
- To keep your pieces shining, clean them routinely with silver polish. However, the best way to get rid of tarnish is to avoid it!
Finally, Remember the old poem “Make new friends, but keep the old; Those are silver, these are gold?” I invite you to look at our magnificently crafted, high end sterling at prices you can afford and make some new trendy “friends” from among our collection!

Wink Jones, purveyor of WinkCz.com has cast his vote for Oprah to wear his Pink Cz. This ring is a WinkCz custom creation that is fit for a queen, but made for every woman’s budget
(Newswire.net — November 14, 2013) Boise, Idaho — She’s gorgeous, she’s pink and rose, and asking for the hand of the Fairest Lady in Land! When the nominations for the People’s Choice Awards 2014 were announced, Wink Jones, premier gemologist and owner of www.WinkCZ.com took on the challenge of deciding which damsel would dazzle wearing their PinkCZ ring and its precious royal tones.
There was quite list to choose from. Nominees read like an A-listers ball of on-trend fashionistas. The contenders were fierce. Choosing who should “wear the ring” between the nominated princess such as the engaging Katy Perry, our real Miss America, Sandra Bullock, the exotic star of “The Good Wife,” Julianna Margulies, and among others, the sultry Mariska Hargitay. Hargitay who gets her beauty in part from her mom, the late Jayne Mansfield. Casting his vote for just one of these beauties was a task that would drive any man to dance in jewelry heaven. The highlights of choosing a celebrity and why were documented in Wink CZ’s Blog.
But after much deliberation, Wink decided to give the honor to our Queen: Oprah! The reasons? Says Wink, “Not only was Oprah nominated for her work in The Butler, America’s other first lady has the class and the coloring to add even more sparkle to our PinkCZ ring. Those royal tones would not only bring out the fire in her gorgeous skin, but more after winning kudos for her performance in The Color Purple I think the ‘Pink Gods’ are Winking at this rare gem of a star.
Wink Jones, owner and founder of Wink CZ has been in the jewelry business since 1970. Wink graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in 1975, and has been a proud member of the trade ever since. He enjoys a reputation as “the expert you can trust,” providing diamonds, gems and jewelry whose beauty will surpass your wildest dreams. Hi knowledge of diamonds and gemstones drove him to discover the most optimal method of cutting cubic zirconia for a “you cannot believe it’s not real” effect, making the finest of jewelry set in precious metals affordable for anyone.

A new trend is emerging and I for one love it. The single strand sweet pearls are so out, even June Cleaver might toss her “proper” jewelry which she wore while Hoovering! Staid, sweet and sheepish has been replaced on runways, from Fashion Week to private showings, by bold, brash and breakthrough!
Finally, the runway has caught up with us at Wink. Our passion for creating custom designs for the women of today who know who they are and want to WOW the world with their independent spirit and singular creativity! At a recent meeting, we uncorked the milk (this is South Dakota), which we only do on very special occasions, then got busy creating cutting edge masterpieces to make each woman runway ready.
First we agreed upon a name. We came up with “Warrior Princess” for 2014, as the women on the red carpet are bedecked in jewels that are a combo Wonder Women and Princess Kate. Pretense is out and sexy chunky power is in. We (men) are hooked on this majestic merger, and the ladies are jumping on the trend like ribs, rods and rock’n roll.
Hot Jewelry Trends for 2014: The 10 “C” List to Be Runway Ready!
CERAMIC: If you think ceramic is only the stuff of tiles and spark plugs, designers such as Michael Kors brought ceramic watches front and center on the catwalk. This humble earth material, also known as porcelain is among the most sensual and engaging of accessories for the wearer and the basker. We, at Wink love this trend.
CHAINS: Chain are no longer for fences! They’re everywhere from bags straps, bracelets, belts, single wrist bangles and even woven in hair. According to Karl Lagerfeld, the bigger the better and the more the merrier. If you prefer a more demure look, you can choose a dangler with a simple medallion as Riccardo Tisci has proven on the catwalk.
CHANDELIER EARRINGS: And you thought they were those things hanging over your dining table–no more. On worldwide runways, chandeliers are hanging from the ears of top models! Balmain has created hanging sparklers that are long, lustrous and fit for a princess. In 2014, you want to spangle with dangle!
CHARM & CHARMS: The brooch is back! Remember gram’s pearl oval brooch? Remember how you felt the sentiment of this demure but outstanding piece when she wore it? How it became a family heirloom? This year, Emanuel Ungaro has updated the look with oversized precious metal pieces, adorned with graphic lines and highlighted with print fabric. These pieces can make a simple runway ensemble–and yours!
Who isn’t looking for that extra measure of spiritual safety these days? After visiting temples in India, Kenzo is showing jewelry that doubles for Talismans including a wide variety of “evil eyes” on fabric. If you’re Om Chanting, this may add that certain something to your mantra.
CHUNK: Chunk is everywhere! Lanvin’s models hit the runway with words! “Love”, “Cool”, “Happy” and “Help” made up their chunky gold choices, along with wild crowns and brooches celebrating the insect! The theme? Fresh, strong and free.
CLUTCHES: Céline is showing clutches that are oversized. The women here at Wink are sighing with joy. No more fishing expeditions at the bottom of purses designed for elves to turn up your credit card! The jewelry of choice is minimalist. Bracelets and necklaces are dainty and elegant. We have a large assortment of minerals such as jasper that make the perfect drop against a wool suit or sweater.
CROWNS: Byzantine beauty abounds and wraps the runways in opulence. Dolce & Gabbana sends “power” down the runway, adorned in magnificent mosaics and heavy gold crosses, necklaces, earrings and crowns! Alexander McQueen has also embraced headpieces. Crowns are back, no doubt due to our love for Princess Kate and the new royal fashionistas, but heavy lies the head that wears one! Wear at the big events. For a potluck dinner, ponytail it.
COLOR: Blue, red and pink graces the catwalks, courtesy of Oscar de la Renta, who “pallets” his models in oversized sautoirs and earrings made of turquoise and amethyst pinks, among other precious an semi-precious stones; sometimes color needs to be nurtured. To create a prism of colored light, plastic pendant earrings by Olivier Rousteing make us “reflect” on the bejeweled look of Balmain ensembles. Gucci’s runway gals reflect those lights adorned in dark crystal necklaces matching their ensembles.
CUFFS & CARTILAGE: At Chloé nice runway models toughened up their sweet gorgeousness with dynamic earcuffs in gold, while Giambattista Valli accessorized his gowns with oversized XXL raw metal cuffs. The combo of sweet and spice (or spike) is the hot trend today.
CUTTING EDGES: Punk, grunge, barbs and spikes are on catwalks worldwide! Rodarte spotlighted barbed silver and gold-plate earrings, while Versace had a hit with ear nails piercing lobes, not to mention other well-placed nails!
Back to the future, Punk and Grunge is still going on. Whether in leather, gems or “grunge” is no longer “dressing down” according at Saint Laurent, the house that showcased bracelets at Fashion Week. Hedi Slimane went for spiked stockings (My best advice? Watch where you sit!) Cavalli turned up the Warrior Woman with chainmail skirts and serpentine jewelry, including eagles clasping their quarry. Jean Paul Gaultier went full-out armor on the runway with what else? Silver cuffs! His gals are on the job, perhaps scaling tall buildings in Paris, Milan and New York!
May the jewelry force be with you.
Here’s Winking at you!
The nominations for the People’s Choice Awards 2014 are in and it’s white hot news! The contenders at the top of the list have one thing in common: they’ve each been A-list trendsetters with a unique style and the world is watching ready to be wowed! We at Wink CZ find ways to WOW whether they’re on the red carpet or when the buzzing paparazzi find them strolling out of K-Mart. Source
Our vision is helping you get in touch with YOU; all your layers, including sexy, dynamite, quirky and always fashion forward. Natch we know how stars do it, but we’re equally passionate about making these cutting edge jewelry trends affordable for you. Now for my suggestions!
SANDY ROCKS AND RULES
As always, this year Sandra Bullock is the woman to watch. Nominated for five awards, this lady’s got it all. She’s the only actor nominated for the People’s Choice Awards who’s up against herself in the duo category for her work with George Clooney in “Gravity” and Melissa McCarthy in “The Heat”, which could just be the perfect description of America’s princess. If there was ever a new “it” girl, it’s Sandy. She projects the All-American gal who would win Miss Congeniality in any contest. With her blend of heat, sweetness, sexuality, toughness and humor, she reflects who every woman wants to be and brings it to all her roles, whether she’s playing a temptress, homemaker or spy. Source
Known for her classic elegant style, Sandy loves her diamonds – black or white on her neck, wrist, ears. For this year’s Oscar red carpet she even wore a diamond brooch in her hair to compliment her earrings and ring! As a film goddess who’s raked in millions and is among the Top 100 Stars at the box office, she can afford to indulge.
Clearly diamonds are our fave girl’s best friend, but we at Wink CZ would love to see her embrace more color. One of the top–ranking female celebs, she’s also blessed with a height of 5’7.5″ and weight of 110 lbs., not to mention coloring and bone structure to wear more colorful complex jewels. Source
I recommend she trends with beads; layers and layers of entwined beaded necklaces in a variety of shapes and colors that will bring back the Jazz age. Our assortment of gems, including pearls and amethysts intertwined with sapphires and rubies, would play to her humor while trending the 1920s. Simple earrings embedded with light colored gems would add even more luster to this timeless star. A matching hair piece in rubies would complement her gorgeous brown eyes. The layered look of color will brighten her beauty as she sashays down any runway while maintaining her grace, elegance and humor. At Wink CZ we want to make a fashion statement that works for you and “a slovenly FBI agent” – with that touch of precious glass and class.
OUR “OWN” OPRAH
Oprah Winfrey is up for an award for her work in “The Butler”. America’s “second” first lady has the unique ability to resonate with both celebs and her audiences. Open, caring, giving and a straight talker, this lady is in a class by herself. Like so many women, even her weight fluctuations cause a stir and her devoted fans preferred her to be “curvy” – yet another sign of her powerful resonance with her viewers whose closets are stuffed with “one-size-fits-no-one”.
Our own Queen knows how to dress at any weight with style and class. Her fave jewelry accessories tend to be demure with diamond studs, earrings, bangle bracelets and hoops. Personally, given her gorgeous skin tone and curves, this is one lady who doesn’t need to play it “safe”. Source
For example, our Pink CZ with the rose gold setting would not only highlight her natural coloring, but be a testament to her first film “The Color Purple”, which was a personal and professional triumph. Our OWN Oprah can not only carry off this jewel, but draw light to her stature. Source
I’m often asked by curvy ladies whether they should “tone down” or make the statement, “I’m here. I’m curvy and I’m gorgeous!” My answer is simply “go with what suits YOU.”
Whether Oprah is concerned about her weight or believes less is more, a woman large in stature … can go “WOW” with metals and gems that flatter and add to her flair in my opinion. I’d love to see her jewelry accessories encased in gold with larger colored precious gems to enhance her skin tone. Garnets, her birthstone, set in gold would make a magnificent necklace or a triad of elegant intertwined bracelets. I would also go more African for her jewelry accessories with strands of custom-made artisan pieces and beaded colored gemstones in rose-tones and brown.
At Wink CZ, we can also create similar designs for you without having to spend a fortune to look as glam and trendy as this one-of-a-kind lady. We take great pride in adorning you, a Queen on a tight budget!
THE ROBIN WILLIAMS CHALLENGE!
From his first nomination in 1979 for his unforgettably wacky portrayal of Mork to his current role 34 years later in “The Crazy Ones”, this is one comic actor who has raised the bar on wild and crazy! Like his mentor and friend, the late Jonathan Winters, Robin is a master at the unexpected and can improvise buying foot cream that would have the entire Supreme Court in stitches. True, Robin has never been known for being a fashionista, which makes my job even more fun! No one expects him to be a George Clooney. Robin can show up in neon pantyhose and get a ribbing instead of a roasting from Joan and Melissa. Source
For him, the sky’s the limit. I see him in Morky “cuffs” – large silver bracelets, custom-made to commemorate his Morkiness. Dangling earrings that glow in the dark? Perfect. Chains, chains and more chains, around his neck (not to mention legs) in silver spikes with a matching Morky symbol would make him, well not fashionable, but “Robinesque.” Personally, I love quirk and custom-made quirk is even more fun.
Ultimately, one of our missions at Wink CZ is to design jewelry that’s not only affordable and will showcase your individual assets, but is quirky and FUN. Fun to wear; fun to dare.
Here’s Winking at you!
If you think it’s just a token, to a gemologist like me, as well as to players and collectors, it’s the crown jewel of the Series, fit for star athletes, celebrities and yes, even royalty.
Picture it–a ring with 103 diamonds and over two and a half cut rubies embedded in 14-karat white gold. This was the St. Louis Cardinals’ 2011 prize. Each is custom and includes the player’s name and number in addition to the “StL” emblem. The ring also depicts the Gate 3 Bridge, honoring the Club’s stadium, rubies designating each year the Cardinals took home the title, along with the phrase “Happy Flight,” their motto.
You won’t find this little beauty in a Crackerjack box! In fact, the ring itself wouldn’t fit in a Crackerjacks box! These beauties are white, red-hot and make the perfect adornment as the star “act” in a Vegas showroom. Sentimental, dazzling and worn by the very best athletes in the world, these treasures have a fascinating history all their own.
Large, Larger, Largest World Series Ring
Imagine it–a huge ring weighing in at 70 grams including 229 diamonds and 18-karat gold inserts. It not only includes the player’s name, number and position, but also the team’s season record, a replica picture of the Series trophy, and post-season scores. Can you guess the team?
It was the 2003 Florida Marlins World Series Ring! There’s more. One of the 229 diamonds is a rare teal representing a marlin’s eye jumping through their logo. Fortunately, they decided not to rep its dorsal fin!
The wild and wacky actor, known as much for his off-screen antics as his on-camera ones, took a break from being a “bad boy” to being a buyer in 2011, when he bought Babe Ruth’s World Series Ring for the price of not one, but two Maseratis: $250,000!
What can I say? He loves baseball, in the real world as well as film, where’s he’s portrayed players in three films: “Eight Men Out”, “Major League” and “Major League II”. Before buying, Sheen gave out this advice to young players during batting practice at UCLA: “Stay off the crack. Drink a chocolate milk. Enjoy your moment. That’s all I got.”
Willie Wilson Gets a New WS Ring Thanks to the KC Community
I admit it–I’m sentimental. As a gemologist I’m passionate about both the beauty of stones and, most of all, their meaning. Jewelry is a gift of love, remembrance, or promises made and to be kept. Finally, they carry a legacy to hand down to children and grandchildren.
Last month former KC Royal outfielder Willie Wilson got a precious gift: a new World Series replica ring to replace the one he earned in 1985, then lost when he was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2000. The ring was a surprise gift given to Wilson who was addressing the crowd at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum about his new book.
Helen Mohr, his event planner, spearheaded the gift made possible through contributions of family, friends and fans who contributed the $8,500 for the ring through PayPal and Twitter.
Wilson, who was plagued by personal difficulties, has moved forward, but one part of his past he couldn’t forget was his ring. An emotional Wilson told the cheering crowd: “Everything else you can replace. You can’t replace this. It was blood and tears and a lot of hard work. I was trying my hardest to save up for it and try to get it back,” Wilson said. “I just feel like all these people here…some way, somehow I touched them, and they really touched me. I can’t put it into words.”
Yes, my friends. A ring is more than its weight, even its content. For Willie Wilson, it’s a restoration of pride as he moves into a new future. Those World Series rings are diamond-studded for the amazing work players have done on a different diamond. How many of us can say that?
Here’s Winking at you!
Remember the days when Fall colors were tan? If you were adventurous you might choose buff, beige or taupe. For contrast, we’d choose…brown. This year, designers are seeing the majestic brilliance of the forest instead of the trees in clothes, accessories and jewelry!
In the ultimate 2013 Fashion Breakdown, trending Fall colors means expecting the unexpected!
“Easter basket” pink in November? You bet. Bubblegum sashayed at Carven this year! If “neon” is “you”, outré orange is your Fall trend hue. From plush purple, to racy red, to luxe gold and mossy green, color–big, bold, and sleek–is taking us out of bark dark and rocking the runways. Don’t be surprised if you see JLo in must-have green military, Sarah Jessica Parker in slinky sapphire and yes, Lindsay Lohan in snowy white. Check out these fun Fall jewelry trends from your favorite celebs!
Ah, but keeping up appearances when trending Fall colors means, in the now immortal words of Tim Gunn, we have to “make it work!” As Project Runway cultists know, when he tells his fashionista stars to “use the accessory wall well”, he means it. The wrong shoe, scarf or Cubic Zirconia has sent many talented wannabes back to “clean out” their spaces.
This has never been more true for Trending Fall Colors in jewelry. According to Fashionising.com, fashion trending today is about more than a little black dress; they report “No part of the body is off-limits for dressing up and accessorizing.” In recent seasons, earrings took center stage, along with gargantuan rings that hit every joint in that tender digit. The big jewelry news this Fall is the “knuckle ring”–multiple Colored Gem Stone rings worn mid-finger, below the knuckle! As we know, when fashion speaks, it quickly turns to a must-have reality for the cool crowd. See some of the hot new choices coming out this Fall!
Face it, while granny’s tender garnet may speak to your heart, it may do less for creating dizzying glittery hands garnished with genuine colored gem stones. Unless she is a Sultanette (or a Beverly Hills housewife), chances are she has more “pure ice” in her freezer. So what’s a hard-working fashionista on a budget to do?
The solution is simple, sparking and sophisticated. Go with high quality Cubic Zirconia!
Gemstone expert Wink Jones will tell you, “We’re not just creating jewelry. With our superior cut and array of colors, we’re making an heirloom at a fraction of the cost of our sister site www.highperformancediamonds.com.” At Wink CZ not only are gems cut to perfection, but you can custom design your own pieces to flawlessly jump on the Fall cubic zirconia gem trend.
However, this is not always the case. “When buying cubic zirconia, as with all fine pieces, there are things you should know when making your choice,” Wink advises. Here are five things to consider:
1. Decide on cut. For example, “the princess”, the “brilliant”, and the “radiant” cuts. Go to jewelry stores and try on different styles and cuts to learn what compliments your hand.
2. Always select quality! Look at the seller’s process, background, products and reviews. Besides quality, always choose something that your heart is drawn to and you will absolutely love at first sight. If you like the gem from one ring and the fixture of another, Wink’s custom design department can craft a special piece just for you.
For those of you who are as concerned about the global economy, the cubic zirconia is far more eco-friendly than harvesting our natural resources from an already overtaxed environment.
“I’m passionate about giving our clients the jewelry they’ve always dreamed of, their way,” says Wink. It’s a passion he developed 40 years ago when buying his first piece of jewelry for a girlfriend in Rio de Janeiro. He started studying gems and part of his mission was to make the cubic zirconia accessible and as expertly made as possible. He found a superb supplier and then a master cutter who creates magnificent, realistic stones from stable, high quality rough. His custom approach and vast selection of styles and colors works perfectly with 2013 Fall color and knuckle trends to suit any suit and fashionista in virtually any price range.
Just imagine. It’s Thanksgiving and you enter hot to turkey trot in a happening bright orange two piece. To complete your ensemble, not only are your nails spiffy, sculpted and sprinkled, you can adorn your fingers in colored gemstones granny could only dream of: orange, canary, yellow, green and gold! All this for less than the price of inviting the whole family for T-Day dinner at Denny’s!
How many of us use that $50 dollar metal detector we bought on Ebay to comb the beaches hoping to unearth that sacred aquamarine dropped by a careless Byzantine King, only to wind up with a bottle cap?
How many of us dream of making millions prospecting in them thar hills. The proof is in the reality program. “Prospectors” a Weather Channel original, has ignited the adventurer in people across the globe!
Going into its second season starting October 27th, the hearty prospectors will again brave danger and the thrill of discovery as they dig and blast their way through the 1400 feet high Colorado Mountains, home to low oxygen, lightning, Herculean winds and flash storms. All this suffering for the prize: a cache of unearthed green, red and yellow topaz, along with aquamarine and rhodochrosite crystals–gems that are worth a fortune!
1. What is a “Gem”?
Simply, it’s a mineral. Bauxite, clay and salt are just three of the many thousands. Yet, most of us would rather buy Morton’s than climb a mountain! Prospectors are after those few minerals that Mama Nature created via an extremely rare chain of conditions to make their very creation a true geological marvel. Steve Brancato, the reality star on “Prospectors” hit the Mama Lode when in 2004 when he uncovered Diane’s pocket–the best aquamarine source ever found in North America, now on permanent display at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The fact that the stone is also the symbol of happiness and everlasting youth, no doubt keeps Steve looking good!
Others rare stones prospectors are after include the coveted golden topaz, citrine (which is a yellow/orange variety of quartz), garnet (especially the blue garnet), fluorite and the bright green Amazonite. The state mineral of Colorado is the all-hailed amethyst (this variety of quartz is said to quicken the intelligence and is an antidote to drunkenness). Gems in the rough bear little resemblance to the sparkler on your finger, so make sure to tote an excellent mineral guide in your backpack to ID that “lump” as worthless or valuable.
2. What Equipment Will I Need?
When starting out looking for your fortune, prospecting needn’t cost you one. First off, you’ll require clothes that are rugged and will stand up to dragging rocks, climbing and shoveling. Don’t scrimp on work gloves and serious boots or you’ll be nursing nasty blisters and worse. You’ll also need a geologist’s hammer (that combines a chisel and flat head) for rock-splitting; it is advised to buy a variety of sizes. Of course a shovel is essential and make sure it folds to make your life as a prospector easier. A magnifying lens (10x) will help you examine your findings.
Should you get lucky and find something of value, you’ll have to put it somewhere; buy a collection bag and separate each precious nugget to keep your cache safe from collisions with pocket knives and house keys. Remember to label your finds, as labeling is heavily dependent on location. Use a laundry marker and sticky labels to number each item, adding the date and exact location.
Safety, even for adventurers, is a given and is common sense:
- Wear superb safety goggles to avoid flying debris
- Let others know where you plan to be, and when you plan to be back
- Bring a buddy with you, as you may need back up
- Be wary of old mines and possible falling rocks
- Do bring lots of H2O and take precautions against sunstroke
- Finally, know where you are! “HELP I’m on a mountain in Colorado…and I just saw a lightning bolt!” won’t do it for you. A map and a GPS device will.
3. Can I Keep What I Find?
Hmmm. The Propectors recently faced sanctions from the State of Colorado’s Division of Mining, Reclamation and Safety regarding permitting requirements for two gem claims near Mount Antero. While these permits are generally in place for large industrial operations, some felt the success of “Prospectors” initiated what star Amanda Adkins feels is “unfairly targeting” her and her co-stars by requiring them to get reclamation permits costing thousands of dollars.
The legal issues can get a little tricky. In most cases you can keep your bounty, but be aware of legislation and ordinances. For example, obviously private property belong to others is out unless you have permission. Not only do you risk losing your find, but an arrest for trespassing! There’s also a difference between mineral and surface rights. If you paid a fee to prospect on private property, make sure you’ve been granted mineral rights, at least during your visit, so you can keep your finds. If you’re on publicly funded land, the government can claim mineral rights unless those rights were legally vacated. Don’t assume that finding a gem under the guidelines of Land Management gives you the right to hunt or keep the largesse.
Ah, but the prize! The income a prospector can make in one season, or 40 days of work is…$75,000! Have you been convinced yet?
