Looking for Something Better than Diamonds? Try Amora Gems!
It’s not too often that a real game-changer comes around in the gemological world. When one does, it’s time to sit up and take notice. The game-changer I’m talking about is the Amora gem, an amazing new arrival to the roster of manmade diamond simulants.
What’s so Special About the Amora Gem?
Nearly everything, as it turns out. Amora gems surpass diamonds in just about every way. Here’s a list showing some of their advantages.
• 10% more brilliant than diamond (2.66 – 2.71 on the refractive index).
• 200% greater fire than diamond (.104 dispersion).
• Colorless (D-H color rating).
• Tougher than diamond (more resistant to breakage).
This quality also extends to the cut. All cuts are done by robots. The cut quality further enhances the beauty of the Amora gem, creating something truly spectacular. The Amora also surpasses other diamond simulants, like CZ and Moissanite.
In other words, there’s no competition between the Amora gem and the diamond. The Amora has already won!
The Origins of the Amora Gem
Amora gems are considered synthetic, but natural ones do exist. The problem is that these gems can only naturally grow in the superheated temperatures found around stars and in the Earth’s molten core. This obviously makes them hard to access.
Fortunately, people have found a new way to obtain Amora gems. Specialized labs can recreate the high temperatures needed to create them. The only reason it’s not yet widely available is due to some patenting issues, but those will soon be resolved. The Amora is expected to reach the US market in August 2015. Once this happens, consumers will be able to purchase beautiful Amora engagement rings and other kinds of jewelry.
An Affordable Gem
It might come as a surprise that the Amora gem is typically quite affordable. Though pricier than some other synthetic gemstones, they cost significantly less than actual diamonds. For any given diamond, an Amora gem of equivalent carat will usually come out to about 2% of the diamond’s cost.
We’re looking forward to making the Amora gem available at WinkCZ.com. For now, visit our website or call us at (800) 534-7904 to learn more about what we have available.
What Goes into Custom CZ Design?
Our custom CZ jewelry is meant to look spectacular. From the precise facets of the CZ stone itself to the care and detail that goes into the metal portions, we always go the extra mile. To us, the process of designing this jewelry is both an art and a science.
With all that, what exactly goes into the design process? How does a piece of custom CZ jewelry go from an idea in someone’s head to a real object? Read on, and find out!
Custom CZ Design Consultation
The first step will have a professional design consultant who can work with you to figure out exactly what kind of custom CZ piece you want. This might mean looking through the different types of jewelry until you find something that clicks. From there, further modifications can be made.
On the other hand, maybe you already know what you’re looking for. You have a distinct vision laid out in your head. If this is the case, the design consultant can still help refine your initial concept.
Once the initial planning is finished, the consultant will move onto CAD (computer-assisted design). This is where you will start to see the custom CZ take form. By creating 3D models, the consultant can see exactly what they’ll need to do in order to actually create the item.
These models are extraordinarily detailed and realistic. They are even made to the exact finger size of the finished piece. There’s a good reason for this; we want you to see what it is you’ll be getting. Once the design is finished, it’ll be shown to you for approval. If you’re satisfied, we’ll get started on the creation process. If not, we’ll make whatever changes you request.
Making Custom CZ Jewelry
Our jewelers will use the finished CAD image and recreate it in reality. The CAD will be used to “print” a wax that will allow the ring to be cast exactly as you have approved it. The final touches can be added once the ring is cast and polished. Some processes, such as milgrain and engraving, must be done by hand in order to look sharp and crisp.
This is where the design process pays off. Once all the details have been figured out, the jeweler will be able to work wonders putting them into place. The realistic images produced by the CAD software help a great deal.
Custom CZ Creation
As you can see, a lot of effort goes into the creation of a custom CZ ring, earring, or pendant. It takes around 2-3 weeks to take care of the initial planning and consultation, and 3-6 weeks to actually make the item.
This attention and effort, however, is exactly why WinkCZ is known far and wide for creating the finest in custom CZ jewelry.
Here is a nice, short article by Jewelers Mutual on one of our ladies favorite topics, How to Clean My Jewlery. I lifted this right from a newsletter that I get from the American Gem Society and want to be sure that they get full credit for the origination of this article.
|The Do’s and Don’ts of Cleaning Your Jewelry|
|We asked our friends at Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company to help us out on a topic many of us need right about now: cleaning our jewelry. After all, we want our jewels to sparkle, right? Here are some tips they gave us:
The only thing better than knowing your jewelry sparkles is to know it’s protected!
I am a big believer in Jewelers Mutual and their Perfect Circle Insurance program. Talk with your jeweler about an insurance appraisal document if you need insurance.
Call us at 1 800 534-7904 if you have further questions about cleaning your jewelry or insuring it.
It happens. Sometimes we just love a ring a little too hard, and a little too long between cleanings and polishing.
What do we do? Do we scrap it out and start over? Do we do a patchwork repair and hope it lasts a few more years? Did we wear out a shank and just need a new half shank to make it all better? Do we just throw it in our jewelry box and forget about it?
Seems a bit harsh if it is a piece that we have worn so hard because we loved it. I am going to share with you some photos of rings that were loved a little, or a lot, too hard and what we did about them.
The case of the overloved Garnet
Many years ago, when I was just starting in the business I had a chance to buy an incredible Tsavorite Garnet and have it made into a ring by the great Oscar Heyman Co. It was a wonderful creation in 18kt yellow gold and platinum.
I sold it to a wonderful couple and after many years he brought it to me and asked if it could be saved.
As you will see in the photo it has been loved a long time and much too hard for a garnet. There is serious abrasion around the table and the ring itself is looking tired and worn and everything is dirty and dull looking.
We took the stone out of the ring and sent it to Richard Homer who gave it some much needed love. We cleaned and polished everything, making it all look bright and new again and then reassembled the ring.
As you can see from the two pictures below, it came out looking as good as new. Probably a bit better actually, because Richard coaxed every possible bit of sparkle out of this magnificent gem.
What is your opinion? Should we leave it languishing in a jewelry box? Or, should we make it new again?
My clients were advised that a garnet with a hardness of only 8 – 8.5 was much too soft to be worn every day and she has resolved to wear it only for special occasions, as it is now very much the special ring again.
The Case of the Inherited Diamond and Tanzanite Jewelry
This next example is a little more horrific. My friend decided to do something nice and did the dishes one morning. Unbeknown to him two rings and a pendant were soaking in a coffee cup of water and detergent next to the sink. He turned on the disposal and dumped the cup into the sink.
Hearing the horrible clatter he immediately shut off the disposal, and fortunately the water. The badly damaged Tanzanite was still in the disposal, as were the other two rings, but the 2ct plus diamond that had been inherited was gone.
My friend called a plumber who came out and removed the trap, It was not there. Shining a flashlight through heading towards the drop into the sewer the diamond was spotted only an inch or two from dropping down into the sewer, from which it could never have been recovered. They were able to fashion a hook and with great care get the hook past the diamond and then draw the diamond back to the anxious hands of my friend.
Sadly, I do not have pictures of the diamond before we repaired it from its nasty journey through the disposal, let us just say that it was chipped, although not as badly as one might have expected it to be.
Here is the damaged ring for the diamond.
As you can see, back then my photography skills were somewhat limited, but the damage is clearly easy to see. There was really nothing we could do that would ever restore this ring to its former condition, so we used the gold to remake the ring completely.
The picture below is what we got when we were finished. The diamond was recut to more modern standards and my client assures me that she loves it as it is even more beautiful than it was when she inherited it from her mother. Here is the finished ring.
Here is a picture of the mounting for the tanzanite.
And two pictures to show you how awful the Tanzanite looked.
It looked horrible, but actually sustained less damage than the diamond, which given the softness of Tanzanite really surprised me.
We sent this gem to Richard Homer, who with the clients approval, finished into one of his fantastic concave faceted gems.
Like the ring we found it preferable to remake the pendant. Here is the incredible result.
As you can see, even badly damaged jewelry can be either repaired or remade to be as good as, or even better than new. If you have jewelry that has been loved too hard, feel free to contact us about making it new again.
Take Travel Jewelry Wherever You Go
If you own beautiful diamond jewelry, like a wedding ring or pendant, you probably want to show it off. After all, what’s the use of having it if no one else can see? However, if you’re traveling, it can be risky to take jewelry with you. It’s easy to lose small items when going on a trip. Theft presents another risk. Fortunately, travel jewelry provides a solution.
What is Travel Jewelry?
Travel jewelry is an attractive, low-cost replacement for existing jewelry. For example, suppose that you own a priceless diamond engagement ring. Now, you’re heading out on a business trip and you don’t want to take the risk of it getting stolen. Yet you still want people to see the ring—after all, it symbolizes your upcoming wedding and it looks spectacular.
In this case, we can create a piece of travel jewelry that looks identical to your ring. The replica will feature a cubic zirconia stone, a man-made simulant that’s nearly indistinguishable from a genuine diamond. This way, you’ll be able to show off the jewelry without risk!
Custom Designs for Travel Jewelry
Jewelry is all about the details. We take this fact into account when creating replicas. Quite a lot of effort goes into even the simplest custom design. First, there’s the initial design consultation, in which we determine how much the finished travel jewelry will cost and how it will look.
After that, our team will start running the plan through CAD (computer-assisted design) iterations. This allows us to go over the diamond in painstaking detail and create a quality replica. We won’t rest until the travel jewelry matches the original. The process takes 2-3 weeks to plan, and 3-6 weeks to create, so plan ahead of time.
Obtaining CZ Travel Jewelry
We have years of experience in custom CZ jewelry design. We can make replicas of the finest diamond jewelry. For instance, we once had a client who wanted us to make a travel jewelry replacement for an $85K diamond ring. Our duplicate was so good that his wife continued to wear it even after they got back home!
Get the Custom Jewelry You Want
Jewelry of any kind is very personal. We associate rings, pendants, and other precious items with the circumstances in which we obtained them—whether we bought them for somebody, or had them given to us on a special occasion. These memories add to the luster of each piece.
Customization enhances this sense of owning something special. By purchasing custom jewelry for yourself or a loved one, you can have it look exactly the way you want. This option is available for both jewelry and for individual stones.
There are many reasons why you might want to modify jewelry. Perhaps the size of a ring needs to be modified in order to fit the recipient’s finger. Maybe you just want it to look a certain way. Designing custom jewelry involves a great deal of finesse. Very small changes, like the positioning or shape of the prongs that hold the gem in place, can make a tremendous difference in the appearance and quality of the end result.
As expert jewelers, we’ll be able to modify the piece to your specifications. We take painstaking care to ensure that the finished product meets the highest aesthetic standards. With us, you’ll be able to get the best in unique custom jewelry.
Custom CZ Stones
One of the advantages of cubic zirconia is the fact that it imposes fewer restrictions on cutters than do diamonds. A diamond’s value is significantly reduced if the weight goes even slightly under 1.00 ct. As such, the cutter sometimes cares more about having the diamond stay in the right weight category, even if that means sacrificing the beauty of the cut.
As a manmade diamond simulant, cubic zirconia can be cut to more artistic standards. CZ has a similar advantage when it comes to color. A diamond’s color is determined by nature. Custom CZ, on the other hand, can be whatever color you want. It also allows for more vivid hues.
Your Source for Custom CZ
The versatility of cubic zirconia means that it can be used for nearly any kind of situation. Contact us at WinkCZ if you’re interested in getting custom jewelry of a very particular design. We’ll know what to do.
Why CZ Engagement Rings?
An engagement ring is a gift from the heart, a symbol of love and commitment. The diamonds that cap these rings are often objects of true artistic beauty. Unfortunately, they’re also extraordinarily expensive.
However, modern technology has given the consumer new choices when it comes to jewelry. CZ engagement rings are a fine example of this. CZ stands for cubic zirconia, and is a type of man-made crystal that is an excellent simulation of a diamond.
CZ Rings: Higher Quality at a Lower Price
CZ engagement rings often look better than their diamond counterparts. They’re also much more affordable. In today’s troubled economy, young couples may not have the resources to purchase an actual diamond ring. By saving money with CZ, it will be easier to make a down payment on a house or to pay off student loans.
Some couples use CZ on the engagement ring as a placeholder, the idea being that the husband-to-be will purchase a diamond for the ring sometime in the future. However, more and more people are choosing to keep the CZ ring during marriage. This is sometimes for practical or sentimental reasons, but many appreciate the aesthetic qualities of cubic zirconia.
The value of diamond also makes cutters reluctant to cut away all that they should. For example, suppose that a cutter is working with stone in one of the expensive weight categories, such as a 1.00ct (carat) diamond. The difference between a 1.00ct and a 0.99ct is actually about 20%. Because of this, the cutter will often “swindle cut” the diamond in order to keep the weight at or above one carat. This is because even a poorly cut 1.00ct diamond is worth more than a well-cut 0.99ct diamond of the same color and clarity.
This problem doesn’t exist with CZ. The raw material is so inexpensive that there’s no problem in allowing cutters to create truly breathtaking stones by cutting them properly.
Getting the CZ Engagement Rings that You Want
Wink Jones is a merchant who specializes in fine CZ jewelry. He knows that an engagement ring means a great deal. This is why the rings in his online store are available in a staggering variety of colors and cuts. If you aren’t able to find something to your liking, he also offers custom cutting services.
Purchasing a cubic zirconia engagement ring demands a great deal of consideration. Don’t rush into anything, and take the time to figure out exactly what it is that your significant other wants.
The affordability of CZ engagement rings makes them an excellent choice. You’ll be able to find rings and many other kinds of jewelry at WinkCZ.com. You can learn more by calling them at 800-524-7904.
Vintage is in and on trend! A-listers sashayed down the red carpet at the 2013 Academy awards bringing back the old days of glam Hollywood, with actresses such as Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence both wearing “Flapperesque” necklaces down their backs giving them an almost fluid look. Source
But actually vintage and that antique look has been jazz-hot for a few years now and show no sign of slowing down. Source
Personally, we, at WINK CZ love the look as it’s dainty, flattering to a woman’s shape, and quirky.
Many of our regular customers have asked us to help them design “vintage” so we decided to ask them, what they’re looking for in “vintage” and field the many questions we get. Yes, we provided food. High tea, of course!
So here is our gift to you. Based on the comments and questions we got while munching cucumber sandwiches and pastries, I give you … a brief tutorial on “Hot Vintage!”
What is “Vintage?”
Question: Our “focus” group asked, “Wink, what exactly is ‘Vintage?’”
WINK: This is an excellent question. A true vintage piece is approximately 25 to about 90 years old. If jewelry is over 100 years old it is considered antique. So, a ring, say from the 1920s and even the very early 1980’s would be considered “vintage.” If you were lucky enough to inherit great-great-grams 1888 cameo brooch, you’ve got yourself an antique!
Q: Then the group told us they love the vintage look and asked! “Can you make a new vintage piece?
WINK: The answer of course is no (unless you’re willing to wait a quarter of a century)! What we CAN do is help you design vintage inspired and styled jewelry! Using our large collection of the best CZ stones on Earth along with settings and mountings, we can create the look you want your way!
Take a look at our Vintage Inspired Snowflake Earrings! Their delicacy will make you feel like a princess in any era.
Q: Marilyn, a long-time “vintage” customer (her jewelry, not her age), purchased a true vintage stone at an antique fair at a low price as it was very flawed. She decided to embellish and turn into a pin. “Can WINK CZ do it?” she wanted to know.
WINK: You bet! And you even get a new name for it! When the major part of the piece is genuine vintage, along with vintage inspired gems and settings, it’s called an “upcycled” design. It’s a hybrid, but we, at WINK CZ won’t tell if you don’t! So by all means, let us “cycle” your period gemstones. A word of caution! If you’ve purchased a good stone, talk to us about value of the stone itself before considering adding or modifying it.
The CQ-Factor (Custom and Quirk)
Q: Our focus group was taken with wanting a one-of-a-kind piece! “After all,” said JoAnne, a customer of long-standing, “real or CZ, who wants a ring or bracelet we see on every commercial?!”
WINK: We, at WINK CZ couldn’t agree more. Our business is based on putting the “custom” in “customer.” And ours want their pieces to be designed and created to suit their personality, preferences, body type, and taste. Most of all, they don’t want to see it dangling on other womens’ wrists at the Mall. We design your piece to make it a true original! For quirk you might want to start with our loose stones. Here are two of our personal faves for vintage inspired: Our unusual OctaCZ, and our spectacular Old European Cut.
Q: Finally, the group wanted to know what KIND of vintage inspired jewelry they should get to keep the “vintage” style. One of our younger customers, for example, asked if “Ear cuffs” could be considered “vintage?”
WINK: In today’s jewelry fashion world, like the 1934 musical almost “Anything Goes.” Independence and originality are on trend, thank goodness. But here are some of the pieces that are excellent for vintage inspired and a few are making a comeback: brooches, hat pins, Art Deco, long necklaces, dangling earrings, even compacts! Source
So come roaring back to the future, and we’ll be your guides to the very best, original vintage styles. Let us help you turn your inspirations into beautiful reality.
Here’s Winking at you!

Like every other male (and yes with our wives and girlfriends harrumphing ) those of us at Wink CZ were glued to the one show that makes the” Red Shoe Diaries” look limp: “The Victoria Secret Fashion Show.” Of course, we explained. “But darlings, on-trend fashion is our business!” which of course is the “tru-ish” reason we watch. OK, yes. In our kitchen alone, our friend Jason casually mentioned he beats his wife to the mailbox for the Victoria Secret Catalog and the angels to himself! And keeps it next to his precious “Sports Illustrated.”
The flock of angels in the show this year didn’t disappoint, with Taylor Swift taking center stage and Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Lindsay Ellingson, Behati Prinsloo, and Karlie Kloss wafting down the catwalk this year. German model Toni Garrn, (reportedly seen on Leonardo DiCaprio arm) joined the A-plus beauties who “exposed” their perfection.
As we guys know, truly sexy and romantic can be “in your face” but with class and elegance. Segments on the show titled “Birds of Paradise,” “Parisian Nights,” “Shipwrecked,” “Snow Angels,” and the “Pink Network” conjure dreams of beaches, bodies, and heavenly angels with that touch of “naughty.”Source
We also know that lingerie is far sexier to start a romantic evening than nature’s own, as it sets out the promise, the romantic tease, which has been part of the mating ritual since the caveman, UGH! , noticed that slit in his lady’s leopard skin … and those amazing beads she fashioned that draped her neck! Source
After the show we sat around, and we thought: “If jewelry is to adorn, the more skin, the sexier the lady with little but jewelry on the body.” Then we snacked. Then we met up again with the on screen lovelies. “… and what about jewelry in the body,” said a female Winkette. Of course!
So we’ve come up with our picks for the sexiest jewelry to complement every … body.
1- AND BACK TO OUR CAVE-PERSON … Did you know that the cave-ladies “invented” hot jewelry fashion? A new study of ancient beaded jewelry from a South African cave finds that over 75,000 years ago, the ancient female used shells and beads to attract (or hide their outfits). But more, bone awls, stone spear points, knives, and tick shells were part of bracelets and necklaces! Sounds like these ladies were “ahead”—way ahead of the current trend of spiked and heavy metal accessories. They knew that beading and spiky adornments were “naughty-sensual” and added just that hint of “catch me if you can danger” to mate-hunting. And of course, we all know that spike is back. However, we at WINK CZ recommend you use the pointed metal against bare skin with caution! Over the last 75,000 years, we, at WINK CZ have learned that we can give you the same affect with custom pointed gemstone or CZ! Source
2-BOHO MOJO: THE BODY CHAIN. Imagine a gold chain curving around the curvy female form – with little else? Boho (Bohemian) Chic became a recent trend from runways to high schools thanks to celebs such as Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Ah, but if you check out art books, the “new” trend has been delighting both sexes for years, starting with those pre-Raphaelite ladies. They knew how to link their sensuality! Link up with us at Wink CZ and we will help you DIY to create your own exotic and erotic style to suit any budget. Source
3- THE BACKWARD PENDANT NECKLACE: You’re in Bavaria. Or … Boise. The candles are lit by the bedside. You enter. She turns away shyly and down her back is a flowing necklace winding up in a place of beauty … a pendant. One of the more Avant guard trends to come from the 2013 Oscars is the backward necklace. A-listers such as Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence strode down the red carpet looking regal front and back! Nothing looks more sensual and elegant than a long neck piece in metal, beads, or pearls on bare skin, ending in the personal you pendant! In fact, it can be even more flattering than wearing one on fabric! The pendant, hanging backward, not only weights the necklace, but is your personal signature … that points the way. Whether you’re looking for a gemstone or one of our fabulous CZs, we can make sure you capture your essence in any price range. Take a quick peek and “sparkle” with the possibilities. Source
Body-beautiful: Let us, at WINK CZ help you look beautiful at your barest — you’re way! And by the way … we will also design custom gems and CZs for those of you who want to go “naval!”
Here’s Winking at you!

The Winks were wide-eyed, along with 9 million others when on December 8th, the world saw Amy Diaz, of Providence, and Jason Case, Attleboro MA, near Boston win on the finale of this season’s “The Amazing Race.” More than bragging rights, the win comes with a cool million dollar prize.
And in their case, Jason and Amy, who had only been dating a month before being chosen for the show, also found they were racing on love!
Simple? Not so, on “The Amazing Race.” For those of you who haven’t seen it, believe me, it’s not just two strangers deciding to race each other around the Boston Commons – when their eyes meet and they hear The Hallelujah Chorus. In fact, we sat around and discussed the fact that success on this show is a lot like marriage! It requires cooperation, handling stress, making it through grueling hurdles, and having the stamina of a buffalo as teams of two travel the world while doing nutsy tasks, for example becoming human bowling balls on a TV show in Japan. (See? Marriage!)
The last team to arrive at the “pit stops” is eliminated, until a winning duo emerges, either in hate – or in this case, love.
Amy Diaz, 29, a former beauty queen, is now a social media manager, another career that takes a tigress. Her soon to be fiancé and winning partner, Jason, 33, owns a snow plow company! They came well prepared for hurdles.
Now, 18 months after meeting, winning, and learning, despite some ups and downs, they said they were a model of support and cooperation. Source
“Yay” we thought while cheering this young couple on! Throughout the competition, time and time again they would help other teams in trouble, showing heart and compassion. Source
More, so many viewers noticed Jason’s t-shirt with “Boston Strong” slogan, sending a message of support to the people of Massachusetts, his home State, while honoring the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing tragedy. Source
We, at Wink CZ are still reeling from the odious act of terrorism that took place at the 2013 Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. It started out to be a good day, a hopeful day for the second largest World Marathon to be run in 2013. It was. Until two consecutive terrorist explosions erupted on the sidewalk near the finish line. In the aftermath, three spectators were killed and 264 more were injured, many seriously. A tragedy for Jason’s home State … but also one that shocked and outraged the world. Source
Many celebs, especially country music legend Kenny Chesney, a Tennessee native, lept in to make a difference. And he did, by establishing and providing the seed money for the “Spread the Love Fund” that works with Boston Medical Center to help pay for prosthetics, the fittings, along with ongoing care and physical therapy for victims. Even more great deeds from Chesney as he has donated his proceeds from the downloaded single, “Spread The Love,” which was co-written and recorded with the Wailers. Source
To us, Jason’s decision to wear “Boston Strong,” the phrase that rallied a city, and has been “branded” on many products to help victims, was further proof to us that this is a deeply caring couple. Source
Sadly today our world is filled with tragedies created by evil groups and individuals, as well as natural disasters such as hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons. The past two years alone, from Hurricane Sandy to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, cities and towns have been destroyed, while tens of thousands of people have been killed, maimed and left homeless. Source
We feel strongly that this begs the question of conscience for us at WINK CZ. While gems are our business, and we want our customers to cherish our magnificent gemstones, we also wonder if at times, choosing from our elite collection of CZs not only makes personal sense, but can allow our customers to use part of their huge savings on our jewelry to continue to help those in need. We can create CZ Custom rings, the CZ Diamonds looking amazing when completed.
To quote Chesney: “I can’t change what happened … I want to do what I can. If we can all remember that the negativity only wins if we let it, that’s a good start. That, and helping these families. … Hopefully, we can all come together and make a difference.” Source
For a couple such as Jason and Amy, I’d personally recommend they save the million for a lifetime of love and caring, and choose among our vast selection of unmatched CZs, when considering an engagement ring.
My personal choice for them? A custom designed CZ ring that “rings” true for this hearty couple and reminds them of their incredible journey, man made with incredible winning precision. Source
Here’s Winking at you, with peace and love!
